“Hello, everyone!” she says to her zero subscribers. At least, for now!
Which is why I’m glad you’re here reading my very first Substack. Thanks for being here!
What the hell is Mellyfluous?
Good question.
Mellyfluous n. 1 the honest attempt of Melly to write a Substack that has a smooth, rich flow filled to the brim with sweet, little thoughts to brighten your day. 2 Repurposed version of the word mellifluous that Melly stole for her newsletter title
This newsletter will be filled with essays, reviews, and updates on my writing journey. A hodgepodge of everything I, Melly, want to write about really!
And who is this Melly behind Mellyfluous? It’s me!
I am an *aspiring* author of a historical romantasy novel set in pre-colonial Philippines.
Imagine me as Hannah Montana. By day, I’m just your typical nerdy type — obsessed with her anime, video games, k-dramas, and other dorky endeavors — working as a non-magical Mary Poppins. But at night, I live my secret, double life as a writer!
I am, by no means, a professional. I haven’t even ever formally studied writing other than a couple of college essays here and there.
However, I have been a super fan of storytelling in all of its forms for as long as I can remember. Immersing myself in fantastical worlds beyond our own has always been a passion of mine. I’d even say stories saved me.
So, now, I hope to convert all that I’ve consumed into a creation of my own.
And I’d love for you to come with me!
Okay, but who else is here?
Gosh, that’s another great question, future subscriber.
I envision this Substack as a place for fellow out-and-proud nerds, creatives with *big* dreams, and those who are just looking to hang with a new chatty friend — me!
So, if you love an email from a buddy who shares…
deets on the latest Tiktok blackhole they’ve spiraled into
philosophical musings on friendship, identity, morality, etc. (you know, the conversations your inebriated friend needs to get into too late in the night)
their scathing or glowing (there is no in-between!) review of the latest TV show, book, or video game they’re occupied with this time
trivia about Philippine culture and history you didn’t ask for
and soon to come, reinterpretations of Filipino myths and legends?!
sincere updates on how their novel is going
Alright, I’m in. What’s the game plan?
Dear Reader (paid or not paid), here is my commitment to you:
Thursdays: The *top five* things your new friend thinks you should check out this weekend. Think recs, links, essays, shower thoughts!
Monday: Essay-of-the-Week. Something long-form I’m cooking up just for you~
For my oh-so-special premium paid subscribers:
There will be *bonus* content coming up for you in the near future. But for now, this struggling writer would just appreciate the small token of appreciation for her work!
Got it… Are you done now?
…huh? OH RIGHT. Yes, yes, I’m done. See you next time.
